Homemade Laundry Detergent

I started making my own laundry detergent several months ago.  Having a professional furniture maker for a husband, you can imagine that I wash a LOT of laundry!  After reading about homemade detergent for years, I finally just made some of my own.

Homemade Laundry Detergent Ingredients

The Ingredients:

1 bar of laundry soap (today I used FELS-NAPTHA but I have used other brands, including plain ole Ivory)
1 CUP of Super Washing Soda
1 CUP of Borax

The Technique:

Cut the bar of soap into 8 chunks and blend 4 chunks at a time with a tablespoon of the borax until crumbly.  The borax will prevent the soap from caking.   Be carfeful not too much Borax or the soap won't crumble.  Then mix all ingredients together in an airtight container. 

NOTE:  For the previous batches, I grated the soap by hand.   Today, I used the blender.  I like the results much better!

I use one level chinese soup spoon per load.  All the "recipes" I've read say 1 tablespoon per load.  Most folks don't have a professional furniture maker for a husband so I use a little more.    I am VERY pleased with the results.  This homemade soap recipe works better than any store bought laundry detergent I've used plus it is much less expensive.

Wish I could recall where I found the original recipe years ago.  I've come across it (or variations) so many times that it's hard to know who posted it first.  All in all it takes about 5 minutes to make a batch of Homemade Laundry Detergent.  Super easy, super fast, works great!  Try it yourself!
